CE Requirements for License Renewal

Legislature Reinstates 1-Hour Controlled Substances CE Requirement for 2024-25 Biennium

A new rule has reinstated the requirement for 1 hour of continuing education (CE) on prescribing controlled substances for those doctors holding a current DEA license during the 2024-2025. Doctors must complete this education by their license renewal deadline in December 2025.

The WOA will provide opportunities for members to meet this requirement. The next course will be held at the November Primary Care Symposium in the Wisconsin Dells, with another lecture available during the WOA Spring Seminar on May 1–2, 2025, also in the Dells. Registration for the Spring Seminar opens in January.

Fifty-eight percent of American adults report experiencing eye strain or vision problems as the direct result of using technology including computers/tablets, smartphones, and digital devices. Prolonged use of technology puts users at risk for Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS), which occurs when a person experiences vision and eye health problems related to near work when using digital devices. CVS can cause eye strain, dry eye, headaches, aches, and fatigue. With the increasing and extended use of technology by younger users, CVS may appear earlier than in previous generations.
